2/9/17

Students are settling back down into a regular schedule after all the excitement of last week.

Mr. Kissell, our third grade student teacher,  spent time teaching our students about the shape of the Earth through food models.

In first grade, Mrs. Levine’s students spent time working with math manipulatives.  Once they completed their hands-on activity they moved to the ST Math software
on their class Chromebooks.

Mrs. Levine’s class also received a very nice thank you card from a gentleman in Minnesota.  PK-2 students visited multiple nursing home facilities last week and a student from Mrs. Levine’s class made a lasting impression with one of the nursing home residents.  She was so excited to have a visitor that she told her son in Minnesota all about it the special visit.  He felt it was very important that our students know how special their visit was to his mother.

I had the joy of teaching the 8th grade students how to sew during art this week!  It was so fun!

A Big Congratulations to the following students!

Marshall (3rd), Keely (6th) Patrick (6th) & Rylie (8th)

These students competed at the Knights Hoops Shoot Districts competition and will be moving on to Regionals!

Wellness Policy Committee Meeting

Thursday, February 9

6pm

It is not too late to join this committee if you would like to update the St. Malachy Wellness Policy.

We have lots of illness going around at St. Malachy.  It is imperative that families follow our illness policy to help cut down on a number of sick children.

*  ILLNESS

In the event a child becomes ill at school, he/she will be cared for to the best of our ability until the parent/guardian can be contacted.  No child will be sent home alone when ill unless the parent is contacted and gives such approval.

Returning to school after an illness:  The Center for Disease Control recommends that people with influenza – like illness remain at home until at least 24 hours after they are free of fever (100 F), diarrhea, vomiting, severe cough/cold, or signs of a fever without the use of fever-reducing medications (Tylenol, etc.)

All St. Malachy families should consider applying for CTO.  This is a great organization that helps families afford Catholic School Tuition.

This year CTO is asking that families apply online www.fairapp.com

  • The CTO has contracted with FAIR, Inc. to process the financial aid applications and provide an objective evaluation of each family’s financial need. FAIR is a nationally recognized leader in financial need evaluation services for Catholic and private schools.
  • Applications and instructions will be made available during Catholic Schools Week in late January through schools in the Diocese. There is a $27 fee per family for processing the application.  St. Malachy will pay the processing fee.  Please contact Kim Coen 641-782-7125 for a fee waiver code.
  • Applications for tuition assistance need to be completed online by the first Friday in April of each year for round 1. If there is still money available, applications will be accepted until July 31st.
  • Families who apply will be notified of their tuition assistance awards near the middle of August.

We had a wonderful turn out for our Kindergarten information night! If you know someone who is interested in our preschool program please let them know about our next information night!
